The H T Parekh Foundation was established in 2012, the birth centenary of Mr Hasmukh Thakordas Parekh (H. T. Parekh), the Founder Chairman of HDFC Limited*. The Foundation commemorates the significant contribution of Mr H T Parekh towards not just the Indian housing finance sector but also his deep commitment to the development sector in India.
We, at the Foundation, champion Mr H.T. Parekh’s philosophy of providing “service to society” – a belief that has been a driving influence in our work. The Foundation commenced work in the year 2014-15 and with a decade long journey of work across multiple sectors including Education, Healthcare, Environment and Persons with Disabilities. This first phase of the Foundations work was as the philanthropic arm of erstwhile HDFC Limited implementing the organisation’s Corporate Social Responsibility mandate. Our parent, erstwhile HDFC Limited (HDFC), has since merged with HDFC Bank (w.e.f. 1.7.2023).
In this milestone year Foundation is now embarking on a journey of change, gearing up to walk a different path than the one tread so far. As the Foundation transitions into an independent domestic philanthropy we are taking a time to pause and chalk out a new strategy, position and goals for the next 5-7 years.

The H T Parekh Foundation envisions an inclusive India where vulnerable communities have the access and opportunity to transform their lives and move from a state of surviving to thriving. Our philanthropic culture is based on the tenets of mutual trust & respect, integrity and a humility around giving. We stand in as a long term supporter to our partners, that are working to enable the most vulnerable to live with purpose and dignity.
Our approach has been shaped by our experience across sectors and geographies across the country. We recognise opportunities by identifying gaps and needs that we are able to address in the fields we support. Using our rigorous, outcome-led grant-making process, we find and partner with effective organisations and innovative programmes that can play a critical role in promoting and enhancing opportunities for people, especially in places where systemic barriers unfairly hold them back.
Through trusted networks, we identify and partner with exemplary and experienced organisations.
We work in areas of true need, rural and urban, not limiting our support to HDFC's business presence.
